Beelink GTi15 Mini PC and Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon

Hello. I just received my brand new Beelink GTi15 Intel Ultra 9 285H with 96GB DDR5 and 2TB SSD. Excited to get started.

I wiped Windows off of the SSD as I’m not a Windows user, I’m a Linux user. I have a couple of Beelink computers that I’ve wiped Windows off of and installed Linux on with no issues. However, with the Intel GTi15, this seems to be a little more complicated for some reason. I have what I believe all of the BIOS settings set correctly - confirmed with an internet search. However, the GTi15 doesn’t like installing Linux from a USB; it’s sees the USB as a USB CD/DVD for some reason. Ok, this is ODD! I have the BIOS boot order as #1 USB Key, #2 USB CD/DVD; #3 NVME. Pretty straight forward. I burned the Linux ISO to DVD and tried to install via DVD with no luck. Ok, this is now a headache. Anyone have any ideas on why this Beelink computer will not accept a Linux installation? Any suggestions on how to get Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon installed would be most helpful. Thank you.

UPDATE…

I ended up updating the BIOS to T205, the latest as of this post. I was finally able to get Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon installed, however, I had to do it via a DVD instead of a USB; it took a really long time to install. Plus, this GTi15 doesn’t seem to like a KVM very much. Not fun.

beelinkNewb Hi there,what’s the error messages when installing Linux via USB? Have you tried using a different USB port or flash drive? Also, what is the model of your KVM?

My apologies for not responding until now. I didn’t receive an email from this forum notifying me that you responded.

Seeing it’s been a month ago since I posted, I honestly can’t remember what the error message was. The KVM is an Avocent SV240DPH. This Beelink computer does not like this KVM at all. I couldn’t get any video on my Dell 32″, 2K monitor, so I connected it to my Samsung 27″, 2K monitor. This Beelink computer still didn’t pass video to the Samsung monitor through the KVM. I then connected the computer directly to my Samsung monitor via USB-C cable and was able to get video. Wow, that was painful.

Any ideas when a new BIOS version will be released for this Beelink computer?

We suggest giving priority to ensuring that the kernel version of Linux Mint is sufficiently up-to-date. This might indirectly improve the stability of the recognition of external devices.
The SV240DPH model KVM cannot transmit video signals, but it works properly when directly connected to the monitor. This indicates that the video output interface of the machine itself is not faulty. The problem is likely to lie in the compatibility of the KVM with the USB-C video output protocol or the HDMI/DP signal handshake of the machine.
Since USB-C direct connection to the Samsung monitor works, a feasible alternative is to abandon the video switching function of the KVM and use only the USB switching part of the KVM (only connecting the keyboard and mouse), while directly connecting the monitors to the two computers through USB-C or HDMI, and using the signal source input switching function of the monitors to switch the screens.
