Issue Analysis
In your first phase of setup: The NVMe drive could be detected in BIOS, Windows installed successfully, and disk imaging finished partially.
These facts prove the SSD’s basic read/write hardware function works normally. The missing Windows Boot Manager entry in BIOS is mainly caused by UEFI firmware compatibility on this specific unit, rather than SSD hardware damage.
The random full-system shutdown halfway through OS installation (applies to Windows, Linux and all other systems) is a classic sign of abnormal power supply, thermal throttling or motherboard NVMe slot power delivery faults on the mini PC.
Sudden power-offs during installation only damaged the SSD partition table secondarily, instead of being triggered by a faulty SSD.
Suggested Verification Steps
Cross-test the SSD: Install this NVMe drive into another working SER5 unit from your fleet.
If the drive can complete OS installation and boot properly there, the SSD is confirmed healthy, and the defect lies with the original machine’s motherboard/power module.
Test a known-good NVMe SSD on the problematic unit: If the new drive also suffers random shutdowns during OS setup, the root cause is definitely the host device rather than your original SSD.
