Will a Ser 8 drive a 5K2K monitor?

I’m looking at a Alienware 5K2K 38 inch oled monitor is there anyway my Ser 8 can run this for just general computer work, video playback….its working great on my LG 42 C2 oled in 4k 120HZ…from HDMI 2.1 port. When I do a google search A.I. says yes and then the next time its no that the usb4 will only do 4K 144HZ? Any help would be great thanks in advance.

The HDMI interface of your machine should be 4K 120Hz; the DP port of SER8 8845 should be 4K 144Hz.

Therefore, the machine of SER8 8845 should be capable of supporting the connection of an Alienware 5K2K 38-inch OLED monitor.

What about the usb4 port on the back of the unit is it a 40 Gbps DisplayPort Alternate Mode. So the Ser 8 will support 5120 × 2160 pixels? At what refresh rate, hoping for at least 100HZ. Thanks again

Hello there,

The SER8 8845HS rear USB4 port supports DP 1.4 Alt Mode, capable of outputting 5120×2160 (5K2K). 100Hz is possible but requires DSC 1.2a to be enabled.

The SER8 8845’s rear USB4 port is equivalent to USB4 v1 (40 Gbps), enabling PCIe Tunneling + DP 1.4 Alt Mode.

Step 1: Confirm Monitor Specifications

Check if the OSD indicates support for “DP 1.4 DSC” or “5K2K 100Hz+”.
Common compatible models: Alienware AW3926QW, LG 40WP95C (the latter only goes up to 72Hz).

Step 2: Connect the SER8 rear USB4 port using a USB4 certified cable.

Recommended cable length ≤ 1.5m (small 5K2K bandwidth margin).

Step 3: Win11 Display Settings

Settings → System → Display → Advanced display settings
Select 5120×2160 resolution, 100Hz refresh rate (driver auto-negotiation DSC)
AMD Adrenalin → Display → Pixel Format → RGB 4:4:4

【If the monitor only runs at 60/75Hz】

Enable “High Bandwidth Mode”/“DSC” in the monitor’s OSD
Replace with a USB4 full-featured cable (to eliminate cable bottlenecks)
In Windows 11, go to Display Adapter Properties → List All Modes → Manually select 5120×2160@100Hz
