Hi,
I’m trying to use a Gigabyte AORUS RTX 5090 AI BOX (Thunderbolt 5 eGPU, supports Thunderbolt 4 hosts) on my GTi13 Ultra with the cable that came with it. Windows 11 25H2, fully updated. original BIOS - I have had the computer for just over 1 year.
I use it with the docking station with a RTX graphics card - all works fine.
I have tried using combinations of unplugging / plugging and powering on at different times (and with / without the docking station). Plugging into the thunderbolt port doesn’t activate the AI box, but plugging it into the front port (basic USBC) does activate it, but doesn’t recognise it a device. I did managed to get it to activate the AI box once (I have a windows telemetry log confirming the connection) using one of these combinations, but not again.
Already tried: chipset and graphics drivers are current; all BIOS Thunderbolt settings are enabled (PCIe tunneling, USB4 CM mode OS Dependent, ITBT root ports); Fast Startup, PCIe link power management and USB selective suspend are off; Tried different plug orientations and both a TB4 and TB5 cable.
Questions
(1) Is there a Type-C/PD firmware update for the GTi13 like the one released for the GTi14/SEi14? The box sends charging power back to the PC, and this looks like the same kind of power negotiation problem.
(2) Is there a newer GTi13 BIOS with updated Thunderbolt firmware?
thanks
Mark
