SER 8 PCIe SSD PCIe Gen 3/4 Configuration

Hi there,

Is SER8 8745HS allowed to configure whether the NVMe Slot running on Gen 3 or Gen 4?

I’m currently using an Oculink with the second slot and would like to limit it to Gen 3 for some troubleshooting, and I cannot find much info on this. Would be helpful if CS could provide an Yes/No for this 🙂

kulidc The SER8 8745HS platform supports configuring the NVMe slot’s PCIe speed to Gen3; however, this option is hidden by default in the BIOS and requires a specific key combination to access the hidden menu.

Steps:

Power on the device and press the Del key to enter the BIOS interface;
Press the Alt+F1 key combination on the main BIOS screen to bring up the hidden OEM menu;
Navigate to: Advanced → AMD CBS → NBIO Common Options → PCIe Link Speed;
Locate the corresponding M.2 slot port and change the speed setting to Gen3;
Press F10 to save the settings and reboot.

Note: The SER8 does not feature a native Oculink port; you are connecting an Oculink device via an adapter in the second M.2 slot. If you cannot find this setting using the method above, it means the current BIOS version does not expose this option.
Alternative solution:

Use an M.2-to-Oculink adapter board equipped with a PCIe speed toggle switch to force the connection to Gen3 at the hardware level;

I have updated the BIOS to HPT.8xxx.SER8.V035.P8C0M0C15.16.BL, which should be the latest one.

Booted into BIOS, toggled the development mode and the hidden menu does not expose such option (“PCIe Link Speed”) .

Since your latest BIOS version does not expose the PCIe Link Speed option in the hidden menu, the BIOS-level adjustment is unavailable for your current firmware.

Your plan to use an M.2-to-Oculink adapter with a hardware PCIe speed toggle switch is the reliable workaround to lock the link to Gen3.
