Hi my client is using U59 miniPC in their equipment. Lately they’ve reported the equipment to fail. After a lot of debugging, we found that another laptop works with the USB parts we have in the equipment, and when we plug the USB parts to the U59 most of them are not working.

The configuration of the USB parts are: two USB cables connects to the U59, one of the USB devices connects directly to one of the USB cable, while the other USB cable connects to a USB hub with 24 VDC outside power source, so lack of current is not a problem. The most tricky part in this case, however, is that there are multiple USB devices connected to the same USB hub, while one USB-485 conversion cable performs perfect, all other USB devices are dead. Again, if we simply remove the two USB cables from the U59 and plug into a laptop, the full system is back to life and works perfect.

The software and hardware drivers of the USB devices concerned has been carefully uninstalled and installed multiple times, with all the rebooting instructions carefully followed, so that should not be an issue.

Can someone help?

Thanks,
C

USB devices and the host (U59 in this case) usually engage in a power negotiation process. There could be an issue with how the U59 is negotiating power with the USB devices. Some devices may not be able to properly communicate their power needs to the U59, leading to incorrect power allocation and malfunction. You can try using USB - compliant power - management software (if available) to monitor and potentially adjust the power negotiation process.

support1 Thank you so much for your prompt comment and instruction.

Now I failed to mention in my original post that the U59 has been working with both of the USB devices for months until last week. If we do, say, a factory reset or something to the PC, could that solve the problem? By the way, is a factory reset going to erase everything stored in the hard drive?

Also we have a few (around 10 now) more U59s we know are working properly as of now. May I know if what you described above is more likely to be hardware related or software related?

    Thanks,
    C

      Hi,

Problem was finally solved, after the OS was re-installed. There are still quite a few questions remaining. However, since this type of weird behavior could be very hard to duplicate, we are not going to study any further on this.

Thanks to the Bee-link team for the support!
