Howdy and Happy Chinese New Year. I bought the SER8 Mini PC AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics, 32gb RAM and received it December 30th, 2024. I’ve been dealing with an AMD Raytheon Driver problem which seems to be crashing my machine after I upgrade to 96gb of Ram from the installed 32gb. I have researched this forum a lot for other answers and still cannot figure this out. Below are the details: The system seemed to work fine when I was using it as originally configured. After I upgraded the RAM it seemed to do ok as well. However, I decided to work with partitions to get Ubuntu loaded alongside and accidentally deleted the Windows partition. So, I had to re-install Windows 11 Pro using the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft. I had no problems re-installing Windows 11 Pro. However, even after all Windows updates were installed (including optional ones), the machine was still missing the driver for the Multimedia Controller and there’s no AMD software to manage overclocking or GPU settings. I saw a post elsewhere in the forum ( https://bbs.bee-link.com/d/3995-beelink-ser8-8845hs-clean-installation-activation-drivers-basics ) about a clean Windows 11 install which provided links to the AMD Auto Detect tool. When I downloaded and ran the Auto-detect minimal install from AMD it identified drivers and went thru the installation process till the end. However, at the very end of the driver installs, my display became unusable till I rebooted and then intermittently I got a strange message that the wrong AMD Graphics driver was installed and to use their utility to make sure I had the right one. Yet the utility continued to say I had the right driver installed. It became so unstable (could not log into Windows and the screen took a very long time to appear) and mouse moved very jumpy. I tried rebooting and eventually it wouldn’t even let me log in. I had to re-install Windows 11 from scratch again going through the whole process from start. Yet, each time I tried installing the drivers from AMD that the installer recommends or even downloaded them directly via the link to the same software, it continued to freeze screen and become unusable at the end. Then I read another post on this forum that indicated maybe the BIOS version I have is not updated to support additional RAM (over the 32gb originally installed). So, I uninstalled the additional memory and re-installed the 32gb strips that came originally with the machine, restarted the machine and sure enough, it seems to work fine with 32gb and the drivers installed work fine. However, seeing that Beelink clearly indicates in the specs that the RAM can be upgraded all the way to 256GB, I don’t see how 2× 48gb SODIMMS of the exact type as already installed (DDR5 Crucial SODIMMS) isn’t supported by the system. I’m believing the BIOS may need to be updated or there is a problem with hardware and I’ll need to return it. So, I have included an image of my BIOS Screen (taken after I upgraded the RAM) and detailed machine specs below. Additionally I have included an image of the serial number information at the bottom of the unit. Please advise what I need to do to upgrade the BIOS (if needed) please provie me links to download both BIOS and any updated drivers I may need to install. Your help is appreciated. Thank you for your response and providing the bios link and documentation. While you were out for the holiday, I did some research and being somewhat experienced with configuring machines, I carefully analyzed the available Bios updates in the BIOS folder for SER8845, downloaded what I thought was the most recent one (Dec, 2024) and used the method indicated to flash the bios from a USB. That worked great and no issues with BIOS upgrade. However, the problem of loading the AMD GPU driver continues to happen. I was able to simply uninstall the AMD GPU driver and just use the chipset and Windows updates which keeps most everything seems functional. Only problem remains is that I cannot do any special configurations or GPU settings because my machine will absolutely NOT run the AMD software and driver. I’m wondering why this is. Because of this I’m concerned that something is wrong with the machine and I’m going to have to return it (I’ve tried loading Windows 12 times and no matter the configuration, it always fails with the install of the AMD driver – when I have the 96GB additional memory installed). Last question: since I have a later BIOS than the one you sent me (I installed the 12/11/2024 version but the one you sent me seems to be for 8/17/2024) , should I still try to apply the BIOS update you sent me or is that even possible now that I’m on a later version? PWCon Hello PWCon, Sorry for the trouble. Here are some possible solutions: ①. About the driver . 1-Download AMD Adrenaline 24.8.1 or lower 2-Download 7-zip 3 - Open 7-zip, browse your hard disk till the location where your Adrenaline file is and extract the files within it. 4 - Go to Windows Device Manager 5-Right click over your Radeon 780M and click on update driver 6-Click on browse my computer for drivers 7-Browse to the location where your extracted files are 8 - Select Include subfolders checkbox and click on Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer 9 - Still, it won’t be able to find it. Uncheck the “Show compatible hardware” checkbox 10 - Now you can navigate to Advanced Micro Devices and choose your card. l chose Radeon 780M Graphics, but there are many with very similar names, like Radeon 780M without the graphic suffix. Click next. Windowsn will warn you that driver is not for your device, ignore it . ② About the BIOS , please update the BOIS we sent to you. Best regards! Yue Customer Support

SER8 Crashes After Upgrading Ram To 96GB Installing AMD Drivers

Thank you for the helpful steps and the recommendations. I’m happy to report that installing the AMD Adrenaline 24.8.1 driver was exactly what my system needed. Only thing I did different was directly download the EXE (here) and let the installer install it. Once the lower version driver was installed, it seems the AMD driver worked seamlessly with my upgraded memory.

Unfortunately, the Bios flashing would not work – though it read fine from the USB, once it got to the BIOS screen it reported it could not proceed due to “corrupt” or invalid binary. However, since I have a later BIOS installed and it is working fine with the system currently, I don’t see the need to do anything further with the BIOS.

Let me know if you have further information, but all the issues I had have apparently dissipated. Thanks for your help!

Hello, the computer has been working nicely so far – except for the Bluetooth. It was intermittently not working until now, for no reason Bluetooth disappeared like the computer doesn’t have it at all. Fortunately, I have a docking station so my keyboard and mouse still work, but I am now unable to connect my headset which worked fine at one time. Is there an update for Bluetooth driver that can help with this situation. The current “updated” driver doesn’t help from Microsoft Updates and the driver shows it’s not working. Please send me an updated or the correct driver. Thank you!

① Please clear the CMOS. Please turn off the PC , unplug the power supply, and press the CMOS button (or poke the hole of CMOS with a pin) for about 10 seconds . So this reply is for those who are experiencing AMD driver issues/crashing with 96GB ram. There is some kind of bug with AMD and that amount of ram. I’m not sure if it is particularly a problem with integrated graphics or more general.

Here is an old article discussing the issues around using 96GB ram with AMD. Unfortunately, AMD is changing their forums so the link is 404/dead, but you can probably find a cache of the webpage somewhere:

If you remove one of the 48 GB sticks of RAM, the system will likely function normally. That will indicate there may be an issue with that specific amount of RAM (96GB). I don’t have Beelink, but I’ve seen the same issue with Minisforum and AMD cpu/apu. Using 64 GB instead, and the problem went away.
