Hi, I have a SER4 computer and after running for 2 years decided not to power up by itself without reset of CMOS every time. When I shut it down either via windows/shutdown or power disconnect the power button would not respond to power it up. Initially, I could yank the power for 30 seconds, plug in in and the power button respond again. After a while, that no longer works, and the only way to power it on is to unplug power, reset the CMOS (sticking a paper clip into the reset), and plug in power again. Also, when it is running, pressing the power button does not seem to be recognized by windows. Windows just does not react to pushing that button. Things I’ve tried:
- Switch to a different power supply (higher power rating)
- Changing power setting behaviour of how the power and sleep button behave (sleep, hibernate, power off)
- Changing power settings to Best Performance (to minimize sleep/shutdown)
- Put it in hibernation, and use wire usb keyboard and mouse to wake it up. It works for a few months, then stop working - not responsive to keyboard to wakeup from hibernation (i tried connect to both front and back USB ports)
- The standard procedure - remove power, reset CMOS (stick a paper clip and press for 5 secs), leave power off for 10mins, plug in. This will fix it for one time only.
The last mode is the one I use now to power it on, and I’m worry it may get worse, or that CMOS reset button will wear out.
