Hello,
I have spent a lot of time troubleshooting this issue. Here’s a description of the problem during boot:
- Power on
1.1 powered by DC supply, Dell WD19TBS dock connected via rear USB4 type-c port, keyboard connected via dock
- Enter Bios
2.1 keyboard works
- GRUB menu
3.1 keyboard works
- Encryption Passphrase prompt
4.1 keyboard does not work
4.2 connect dock via front USB3 type-c port - keyboard works
- OS loads
5.1 keyboard works with dock connected via USB4 type c (rear port) or USB3 type c (front port)
In summary:
The keyboard connected via the dock with the dock connected to any USB type-c port works at all stages times except for during the encryption passphrase prompt. During the encryption passphrase prompt only the front USB3 type-c port will work.
Clarity on connection paths and results:
- Keyboard -> Dell WD19TBS -> SER9 USB4 Type C (Rear): Keyboard non-functional during encryption passphrase prompt
- Keyboard -> Dell WD19TBS -> SER9 USB3 Type C (Front): Keyboard functional during all stages
I have tried adding many different drivers to initramfs but this has not succeeded.
OS and spec used:
Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1
Linked Kernel 6.14.3-061403-generic (installed using mainline for gpu drivers)
I would like to use the rear type-c port as it has the best odds of running multiple displays via the dock. This would be ideal with my workflow between various devices which dock via usb-c/thunderbolt.
I have my own ideas about what might be causing it but I’m at the limits of my technical ability to work further on this. Any help would be appreciated!
