Running Windows 11 Pro on brand new SER8/AMD Ryzen 7 8745HS Processor. Tried 2 external disc drives I had laying around then bought a new one and still no love. Powered drive from another source, uninstalled drive via device manager/reinstalled, tried multiple discs, tried multiple usb types and locations on the SER8, tried multiple media players, tried updating driver. I can see the drive in device manager but that’s it. Out of ideas. Is there a preferred usb to use on the SER8? Is there a particular cd drive that I need? I’m new to the mini PC world so I appreciate any help.

Thanks for your information. Your current BIOS version is the latest and you don’t need to update.

    Here are some potential solutions:
①Please uncheck the save energy in the device manager—universal serial bus controller–USB hub—properties–power management—uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power”

②Open “Disk Management” to check whether the CD-ROM drive is assigned a drive letter (if not assigned, right-click to manually assign)

③Run “Troubleshooting”: Settings → System → Troubleshooting → Other Troubleshooting → Hardware and Devices

④Force the old protocol to be enabled Device Manager → right-click the CD-ROM drive → Properties → “Driver” → Update Driver → Manually select “Standard CD-ROM Drive”

    13 days later

Unchecked all the USB hub “Allow computer to turn off the device to save power” boxes. Wasn’t sure which one it was so got them all unchecked for now.

Drive letter is assigned : E

Troubleshooter does not have “Hardware and Devices” option (see attached screenshot).

Don’t have option to select “Standard CD-ROM Drive” in Device Manager

Still, the only thing that happens when I try it is the disc ejects and it asks me to insert a disc. When I do it just sits there thinking.

What is the brand and specification of your external hard disk? Can you give us the relevant picture and link of your external hard disk?

      Hi there
Did you try different cables , and different Typc ports on the PC ?
      and change another CD disk

      Test in this way :
A cable to different ports with different CD disks
B cable to different ports with different CD disks
