Cannot boot Ubuntu installer on my SEi14 185H

Hello. I have a new SEi14 185H with bios SEi14T201. I have tried to boot the USB installers for both Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS and Ubuntu 25.04, and neither version can boot. When I remove remove the “quiet splash” boot parameters in grub (so I can observe the boot process) I see the computer either freezes or kernel panics. It is not exactly the same each time, and sometimes the boot sequence seems to get further, but it never successfully completes.

I have managed to get the 25.04 installer to boot in safe graphics mode (nomodeset), but that is obviously not satisfactory.

I booted up the included Windows 11 Pro and used it for a few hours. That seems to work OK, but I bought this computer to run Linux, and not Windows.

I have updated my BIOS from SEi14T201 to SEi14T120, but it has not resolved the problem. Both Ubuntu 24.04.2 and 25.04 still cannot boot from USB. Now the grub screen sometimes is no longer displayed, whereas before it did always appear if a key was pressed. But the result is the same that Ubuntu fails to boot. I get a kernel panic on 25.04 if I manage to access grub and remove the splash screen.

Windows 11 is still working OK.

As an aside, I bought this model as it was stated at https://bbs.bee-link.com/d/6423-gti14-and-sei14-supported-bei-ubuntu-24042 that Ubuntu was working on the SEi14 185H.

I’ve now returned the unit unfortunately, since I need something working quickly.
