I am having a bunch of issues with getting the HDMI port to work on my beelink, when DisplayPort and HDMI+USB-C adapter works. Basically, if I started my PC with HDMI plugged in and no DisplayPort plugged in, it would not display anything, and my monitor would say something like “Invalid input”. But if I started my computer with DisplayPort, it worked, and then after the OS booted, I could freely switch between HDMI and DisplayPort without any issues. (When I clicked “Restart”, it broke things again). Using a HDMI to USB-C adapter and then plugging it into the USB-C port on the front
Eventually, I figured out that it probably that it wasn’t the HDMI that caused issues to manifest, but rather the lack of a DisplayPort (or HDMI+USB-C adapter) at startup. In particular:
- If I boot my computer when DisplayPort or HDMI+USB-C is connected, then everything works fine. After boot, I can freely switch between DisplayPort and HDMI without any issues.
- If I boot my computer when no display is connected, then display still be broken even after I plug in a DisplayPort again. The only way to fix this seems to be to shut down the computer by holding down the power button. If this happens, the next time I boot my computer successfully (by connecting DisplayPort before turning it on), then it will send me to the boot menu (or maybe GNU Grub, I can’t remember) rather than booting directly into my OS.
I am using Linux Mint 22.1, but I had a similar but less extreme issue when I was running Windows. Windows was able to boot successfully when only HDMI was connected though, but when I pressed Del or F7 during boot (which enters bios or boot menu) then it would make the computer unusable until I restarted it.
I put a pin in the CLR CMOS hole for 10 seconds to try to reset the bios, which it did, but it didn’t fix the issue.
Does anyone have any idea how I might fix this? My suspicion is that the bios is handling display incorrectly but as soon as the OS boots the OS takes over control of the display, after which I can swap between HDMI and DisplayPort without any issues.
