I purchased a SER5 PRO earlier this summer and it’s been great. I wanted to add Linux (dual boot) and the instructions are clear but I’ve created problems for myself and I could use some guidance to get me out of this pickle.
When I got the ser5, I had an extra 250GB SATA SSD from a previous mini PC so I popped that in there from the start. When I initialized the device it installed Windows 11 onto that older SSD instead of the 500GB SER5 SSD. I’m not sure if this is a critical problem, but I’d rather have Windows and Linux both running on the pre-installed SSD and use my 250GB for backup or something.
So I’ve been trying to install Windows 11 to the SER5’s SSD but I’m getting nothing but errors. Before doing anything crazy I made a Windows backup USB but even trying to install from that isn’t working. At this point it isn’t letting me install Windows onto either SSD. The repair tool isn’t working either. I can’t get past Windows’ repair/restore screen and none of the options work (the ones I understand enough to try, anyway).
I suspect there’s something amiss with my partitions, but I’m over my head now and afraid of making a major error at this point. I haven’t had the guts to wipe the old 250GB SSD and start fresh because I am worried that it will take me down to bare bones and I’ll be hooped. I don’t know what I don’t know.
I am clearly not a tech wizard but I’m comfortable learning. Can someone please suggest what to do here?
