Mate Mini-B: drive not detected, but all ports work

Purchased a Mini-B, and installed a WD Blue SN570 1TB drive in it. Drive is confirmed working; have tested in two separate enclosures on two devices to make certain.
The newly purchased Mac Mini M4 sees and uses the audio and HDMI; the SD card reader works as well. The NVME drive is never seen by the host device; disk utility and system information also do not see the drive. (System information does see the dock as a Thunderbolt device). I’m waiting on a thunderbolt cable to be delivered in order to do a firmware update (how there is no macOS tool for this is mind boggling), but wanting to see if there’s a solution or fix I can try while waiting for the cable. If that will even work?
I’ve been working on this for 2 days, and running out of ideas; I may need to give up on it soon and get a different device.

Could you provide a photo showing the SN code on the bottom of the machine?
1) Install SSD in Slot 1 first, then Slot 2 for dual-drive detection. Single SSD must be placed in Slot 1.
2) Test without external power supply(PD).
3) Change another thunderbolt cable. Please test your thunderbolt cable once it arrives.

Continued testing, still wasn’t working, so I returned it to Amazon and got a new one.
The new one has the same difficulties…This time I was able to get a Kingston SSD for testing (not long term use)..I did test it with the Kingston I mentioned (OM3PDP3512B), which is also a PCIe 3.0×4 (same as the WD). The Mate says it supports PCIe 3.0, the Kingston test would support that. The WD Blue SN570 continues to not be recognized; the WD drive has been reformatted several times in different formats (APFS, exFAT) and continues not to be recognized. The WD is recognized in two different USB enclosures by multiple devices (Mac Mini M4, Intel MacBook Pro, M2 Macbook, two windows laptops), read/write operate fine. But once installed in the Mate B, it’s not recognized. Is there a problem with interaction with the controller on the drive (20-82-10048-A1 Polaris MP16)? That seems to be the only difference of note I can find…I did see in a post on the support forum that the SN570 is recommended for the ME Mini, so that offers some hope of support?

① Did you locate the SSD in Disk Utility?
② Run the “diskutil list” command in Terminal to see if the hard drive appears. If found, try resetting it using the “diskutil verifyVolume SSD_ID” command.
