Hello,
I’m writing because after extensive testing I can’t understand (nor accept) a limitation that I find quite unreasonable on the Beelink GTR5 with Ryzen 9 5900HX.
The 5900HX is a processor natively designed to run at 45W, with configurable cTDP, well documented and widely used at that power level in many laptops and compact systems.
However, on my GTR5, the CPU never exceeds 35W real power, even under sustained load and with temperatures completely under control.
Technical details
Stock cooling system, cleaned and repasted (temperatures are fine)
Updated BIOS
PBO configurable, but ineffective beyond 35W
Monitoring done with HWiNFO (CPU Package Power / SMU)
The behavior is always the same:
under stress (Cinebench and real workloads)
the CPU is rigidly capped at 34–35W
regardless of the values set for PPT / TDC / EDC
Critical point
In the current BIOS:
there is no longer any option to set 45W
in the power management section it is only possible to select:
AUTO
35W
However, in the past (or on previous BIOS versions, or on similar Beelink models) there used to be a “Performance” mode or an option that allowed the CPU to reach 45W.
So my question is very simple and legitimate:
👉 Is there a specific combination of BIOS settings that unlocks the 45W mode and we are simply not finding it?
👉 Or has the 35W limit been intentionally enforced and the 45W option removed?
I would like to understand whether this is:
a lack of documentation on our side
or a deliberate firmware decision.
Why this matters
This is not just a technical detail.
45W is both the power level this CPU was designed for and one of the main reasons why I chose and purchased this PC.
I bought the GTR5 specifically because it was advertised and known for delivering excellent performance at 45W in a compact form factor.
If the system is now strictly locked to 35W, it no longer delivers the performance level that justified the purchase, and this makes the price paid hard to justify.
Final consideration
I understand the need to protect:
noise levels
power consumption
long-term reliability
But completely removing the user’s ability to choose, especially on an enthusiast-oriented product like the GTR5, is extremely frustrating.
I would therefore like to ask:
if there is an alternative BIOS
if there are plans to reintroduce the 45W mode
or at least an official explanation for this limitation
Because in its current state, the system does not allow users to fully utilize the hardware they paid for.
Thank you.
