Back in October, my cousin asked me for a recommendation for a mini PC. He ordered what I suggested; and since I have many Beelink PCs I thought it would be fine considering the specs. I would think that for the price a 6800H and 16GB of RAM would be great. Because it was a surprise for his kids, he didn’t open it until Thanksgiving and told me he had issues with it.
For starters, when turned on, it takes a long time to get the feed off of the HDMI connection. What usually takes a couple of seconds, it can take more than a minute just to show the initial Beelink logo with the boot options. Once in Windows, the performance was not good right away. With that processor and ram, I would expect to really have a smooth interaction working on basic tasks. But he said it was sometimes even opening programs would not be fast.
I live in a different state and asked him to send it to me to check it out since I was the one who recommended it to me. The first thing I noticed right away was that the machine did not have the usual AMD stickers. I really didn’t think it was a big deal, but then I confirmed everything he told me to be true. In addition to that, I opened it to see if there was something that could potentially be bad with it, and I noticed that there were no ram slots or sticks on the mother board. I’m sure the ram is soldered, but I didn’t mess with it since I’m not very familiar with it; it actually was the first time I’ve seen such a set up considering all of my Beelink mini pcs have actually ram slots.
With that said, I went ahead and added another SSD to the extra slot with Linux Mint in it and that’s when I realized something was very wrong. Out of the box the performance was bad. Even the animations of minimizing or pulling out the start menu would flicker or slightly drag. My older Beelink with a 5700U worked much faster with an older processor. The only think that I can think of is that the components may be bad or we got sold some sort of fake machine.
So, here I am today. I hope that we can get some help because for the specs that we got, I know it should be A LOT faster considering that my other Beelinks have older and slower processors and this model with the 6800H is the worst.
