GT1 Ultimate USB boot

Is there a way to write the OS on a SD Card or USB and boot from it instead of the internal storage? It is a Beelink GT1 with Ultimate written in the front with S/N:LPN1GBLG00428 and 32G next to it

Our R&D team has responded that it is theoretically possible. However, we have not developed systems that boot from SD cards or USB drives, so you will need to compile it yourself.

I understand such system is not yet developed by Beelink but how do I get to boot a compatible system from USB/SdCard? When I press and hold the reset button while powering up the system, it takes me to the recovery. From what I understand, it should boot to the system that is on the USB/SDcard. Is what I am doing the way to get it to boot from the USB/SDCard?
