My Beelink SER5 5560U went dead one month right after the warranty ended. At first it would sometimes not start up, giving me fan spin but then silence and a black screen with no BIOS, but then if I pressed the power button long until it shut down and I started it again then it worked. I saw some other people report this. Since it only happened sometimes, I figured it was some BIOS glitch and I ignored it.
But then, the last time it still came up, the system time reset to 1970. It booted to my desktop normally otherwise, but the system time made me suspicious and I made sure to backup some data just in case. Then I shut down, and attempted to boot again, expecting the worst.
And yes, now it no longer boots, ever.
I tried the obvious, like trying only one of the two RAM sticks and alternating the slots, and resetting the CMOS battery. Nothing, always a black screen. The only difference is that sometimes the fan spin will only go for around 5 seconds then it’ll turn off, power light staying on but no sound, and sometimes the fans will just continue spinning at high speed until I force the entire device off.
It seems like either the power supply or the mainboard died in some way. Is this common? I saw somebody else post something similar. This is quite disappointing, it feels like planned obscolescence for sure. I haven’t had a computing device die on me like this for a long time.
