RAM Upgrade Issue

Experiencing issues when installing RAM upgrade from the 32GB Crucial DDR5 SODIMM that came with my GTi14 Ultra 9 185H.
I have a brand-new kit from Crucial: DDR5 - 5600 SODIMM 1.1v 96GB Kit (2 × 48GB) Model: CT48G56C46S5 CT2K48G56C46S5 – which I believe is compatible as it shows it is via the Crucial upgrade compatibility scan tool.

Installation has gone smooth, everything is mounted properly within the clips. I have verified the installation shows the correct RAM size, speeds, and specs from BIOS and from within the Windows Settings > System > About page.

However, when after installing the new RAM sticks, I’ve been met with an occasional BSOD error(s). Each BSOD error that has occured has been tied to a different cause ranging from “Hyper-V” to “Page Fault in Nonpaged Area” and a few others as well.

I’ve ran MemTest86 with the new RAM installation, both together & individually on each stick, each test results in errors and is unable to complete the scan (freezes after reaching approx. 82 errors collectively; 25-50 individually). The RAM temperatures also climbed up to 78 degrees C while running the scans/passes.

I’ve ensured that all the drivers via Intel Driver & Support Assistant that comes with the device and Windows Updates are up to date with the original 32GB RAM installed.

Am I missing a step along the way after upgrading the RAM to ensure that it works properly? Do I need to update anything within the BIOS or any drivers?

If any additional information/details are needed to help find a solution, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your time, consideration, and attention on this matter.

just because the memory is new doesn’t mean it’s functional (unfortunately);

have you tried going back to the stock set of memory sticks and checking them with MemTest86?
do you have the ability to check these new large memories with MemTest86 in other hardware?

Since original post I have reinstalled the stock 32GB sticks and ran MemTest86 on them, each pass was successful with 0 errors thrown.

I do believe the upgrade kit sticks are faulty, and I’m in the process of returning them.

I don’t have another system that will allow me to test them due to compatibility limitations.

I gave Crucial a call and they confirmed the model is conpatible with my GTi14 Ultra 9 185H, and that it sounds like the sticks are at fault themselves.

From what I’ve gathered, there should ne no additional updates re: BIOS or drivers necessary in order for these to work as intended out of the box with an upgrade. But I will leave that open for confirmation from anyone here that may choose to do so if they have some additional information that I may have missed.

Please press delete key as soon as you turn on the PC, so that you can go to BIOS. On the main page, you can check your BIOS version.

I’ve checked the BIOS version: T201.
I’ve downloaded the T202 BIOS .zip file.
Formatted an empty 16GB USB drive as FAT32 with default allocation size Volume Label: WINPE
Copied the contents into root of the USB drive.
Plug in to my system, F7 to Boot Manager.
Select the USB Drive from the list – nothing happens. Window resolution resizes and reverts back to the Boot Manager list, but doesn’t allow me to enter into the UEFI Shell after selecting this option.

I’ve attached an image showing my USB contents.
If I’m missing a step, please let me know. Followed the PDF instructions to T.

Hi,
For those of us on T201 but maintained 32 or 64GB of RAM, do we need to upgrade to this BIOS? Besides being able to accept 96GB of RAM what other changes are there? Anything to help with C-state stability?

Interesting topic, I was convinced that the memory chips were faulty, but here a possible problem with FW. I’m waiting for the result :)

Likewise, not entirely sure why the USB isn’t registering from the Boot Menu. The only thing I can think of is possibly due to the USB being partitioned in MBR. Going to try GPT and give it another shot. If that doesn’t work, I’m stumped.

I’ve entered into the Internal EFI Shell; it doesn’t register any fs commands. It will map devices & other common cmds, but fs<x> blk vol ls cd – no dice. Shows files systems, maps them. Won’t let me enter into them. 🤔

Everything from the .zip contains the necessary contents to boot and is located where it should be.
Must be user error.

After purchasing my computer, I contacted support about updating the BIOS, and received the appropriate *.zip package. Today after work, I will test the above update. The model is different (SER8), but the process seems similar. I will let you know.

entau Hi if no problem with the RAM issue, no need to update it. It doesn’t indicate it has something to do with C-state stability.

Update:
Switching the USB to GPT partition type fixed the issue preventing me from booting up the FW/BIOS update.

After doing this, the EFI Boot loaded right up after selecting it from the F7 Boot Menu. Updated to T202.

I’ve reinstalled the 96GB Crucial sticks, and so far so good. Windows has booted up as it should, which was not happening before, as it would automatically go to BSOD blue screen error(s).

Currently running MemTest86 to ensure everything is working as God intended. Will post an update after the passes are complete.

For some brands, the RAM can upgrade to 32GB on EQ12 , but some of them cannot recognize it, that is why we only declare it support 16GB
