Just to follow up. After having populated only the x1 slot with an NVMe, I experienced no crashes. As soon as the x4 slot was populated with a brand new disk I started having random shutdowns that the BIOS was able to recover automatically. This was until a few crashes later and it just gave up on restarting automatically. I had to then perform a hard reset before it would boot up.
I currently have both disks in the machine and it has been on for 10 days straight. All I have done is remove the NVMe in the x4 slot from my ZFS pool. To me it doesn’t sounds like there is an electrical issue with the lanes as it is able to stay online with the slot occupied. However as soon as the disk is added to the ZFS pool it begins to experience these power issues
