SER9 HX370 Ubuntu 24.04.2 Power Button not detected

Hello,

I have a ser9 HX370 with ubuntu server 24.04.02 installed. Everything appears to be working well. I am currently trying to configure the power button so that the machine powers off when it is pressed. Unfortunately the power button doesn’t appear to get registered with the OS. I have used evtest to see what events have been registered and I do not see the power button listed here.

Please try the following steps.

Debugging
Test with a live USB: Boot a different OS (e.g., Ubuntu Desktop) to isolate hardware vs. software issues.
Verify ACPI Event Detection
Install acpid (if not already installed):

bash
sudo apt install acpid
sudo systemctl enable acpid
sudo systemctl start acpid
Test if the power button triggers an ACPI event:

bash
sudo acpi_listen
Press the power button. If you see output like button/power PBTN 00000080, ACPI is working.

Check Kernel ACPI Support
Look for ACPI events in kernel logs:

bash
dmesg | grep -i acpi
journalctl –boot | grep -i “power button|acpi”
If no events appear, your kernel might not detect the button. Consider:

Updating the BIOS/UEFI. Please press delete key as soon as you turn on the PC, so that you can go to BIOS. Please send us a picture of the Main page.We will check if you need to update the BIOS.

Using a newer kernel (sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04).

Configure ACPID to Handle the Power Button
Create an ACPI rule to power off the system:

sudo nano /etc/acpi/events/powerbtn
Add:

event=button/power.*
action=/sbin/poweroff
Restart acpid:

bash
sudo systemctl restart acpid

Test Systemd Handling (Fallback)
Ensure systemd-logind is configured to handle the power button:

sudo nano /etc/systemd/logind.conf
Uncomment/modify:

HandlePowerKey=poweroff
Restart systemd-logind:

bash
sudo systemctl restart systemd-logind

Thanks for the reply!

I have tried sudo acpi_listen, but do not see any output from it when the power button is pressed. I pressed the power button over 10 times. To test that acpi was working correctly I also plugged headphones in and out. Here is the output of the program:

I ran sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04 anyways, rebooted the system, and retested the power button using sudo acpi_listen, but it still does not work.

Any other ideas?
