Mini S12 Pro with Ubuntu won't completely reboot

Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu 24.04.3 on this brand new Mini S12 Pro. It works fine so far except clicking the restart icon or running command “sudo reboot” results in the screen properly turning off, and then very briefly showing the start screen before going dark altogether. The power led remains solid blue.

The only way to make the PC boot is to long press its power button until the LED turns off, and then press twice on the same button. However, this also causes the Grub menu to popup.

FYI I also tried with Ubuntu 22.04.5 with same result.

Anyone has a magic trick that’ll let this S12 full reboot at will?

PS- FYI if I press DEL after the reboot command, the BIOS screen very briefly shows before the screen turns off and the PC hangs.

PPS- Further info:

I’m running Ubuntu 24.04.3 with kernel 6.14.0-33-generic on the Mini S12 Pro, BIOS version MINISF003 (2.22.1293 from 2025-03-31).

Rebooting via sudo reboot or shutdown -r now causes the screen to go dark and the power LED to stay solid blue, but the system hangs and doesn’t restart. The only way to recover is a long press on the power button.

GRUB tweaks and kernel parameters like reboot=efi, acpi=off, and noapic have no effect.

This behavior also occurs on Ubuntu 22.04.5.

Can you confirm whether a BIOS patch is planned to fix ACPI reboot handling under Linux or whether this shows this MINiS12 has a defect?

Since I could not find similar MINIS12/Ubuntu issues and solutions on the web, I am leaning toward the latter. If you confirm this view,, please let me know what the replacement process is. I purchased this unit from amazon.fr (order # 402-4824285-8413101 from Aug 21, 2025).

Unfortunately, the MINIS12 reacts in the exact same way with the BIOS version you kindly sent me i.e. upon a reboot command, the reboot process is interrupted and the computer hangs with the screen off and the power LED solid blue.

I am all ears for any further suggestion!

Follow up: in a private email, Beelink CS suggested the device might be defective. I have sent Beelink CS my purchase invoice and requested a refund. They replied I needed to take the matter up with Amazon, although the 2-week return wndow is now closed, which means Amazon invites me to contact Beelink (did I say loophole?).

Alternatively they indicate I could send the PC back to their Germany-based warehouse and they would ship me a new machine in return. Now I kind of feel reluctant to go with that model again as they have not explicitly confirmed (yet) a replacement PC wouldn’t behave the same way.

Feeling a bit left “to my own devices” here.

Luckily, the machine I ordered was “shipped by Amazon” and that saved me: Amazon sent me a prepaid return label and will handle the refund. Don’t know if I’ll buy from Beelink again though.
