Hi,

After using the fingerprint reader happily for a month, it just stopped working. Windows just asks for my pin without the Windows Hello logo for fingerprint reader.

Device manager also doesn’t show Biometric device like it used to. Downloaded the driver Beelink provided but it’s still the same. Got this error instead:-

Image description

An unknown USB device also appeared in Device Manager. Device Descriptor Request Failed.

Please help

    Hi there,

Please reinstall the fingerprint driver https://url.bee-link.cn/qwOm, the file name is ETU813_3.6.2.3_Win11v24H2_WBF_WHQL

    7 days later

Did as instructed - still not working.

Beejay Do you have the same problem ?
Please go to device manager and uninstall the finger print driver ,then restart the PC . Restall the Finger prince driver.

There is also an untraceable “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)” error in Device Manager - couldn’t have anything to do with the Fingerprint reader? In Regedit that Device instance path has LocationInformation as ""Port#0004.Hub#0006 - which one is that?
Recent Windows update knocked something over?

support1 I looked for the fingerprint driver but have trouble locating it …

support1 I looked for the fingerprint driver but have trouble locating it …

Beejay Found it - had to “Show hidden devices” in DM

ok so did as instructed: uninstalled fingerprint driver, rebooted, installed. Rebooted again - no fingerprint reader, no entry for Egis in device manager. Now it seems completely broken - what now?

entau Did what was proposed by support actually work for you? Doesn’t work for me, with exactly the same symptoms…

Beejay Hi there, how about you reinstall the system ?

Please back up the data before you reinstall it.

Yeah, reinstalling the system every time a bogus driver bails out? I don’t think so. Can the supplier of the driver software be asked whether they are convinced that the update is working?

Beejay It might be caused by windows update, so you can try to roll back to the orginal window version.

Same exact problem here. I need my Windows to be up to date and not go back to a previous version.

In Device Manager, I now get a warning under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” for an item called “Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)”.

There are no biometric devices listed anymore. I tried reinstalling from the driver package ETU813_3.6.2.3_Win11v24H2_WBF_WHQL after removing the Unknown USB device from device manager.

Just searching around the Internet, there seems to be a problem with EgisTec Touch Fingerprint Sensor and WIndows 11 24H2. This issue is also effecting the Lenovo Yoga 7 models with Egis FP Sensors. Apparently, there’s a newer version of the Egis drivers out there, version 1.5.40.0 in the Microsoft Update Catalog. However, the USB VID and PID don’t match and wouldn’t install anyways because the bad device listed in Device Manager now no longer has a USB VID PID to match against.

Looks like the only wisdom “support” has to dispense is “reinstall image”, which is an extremely disruptive thing to have to do for anybody using their product for productivity tasks… .

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I sincerely apologize for the frustration this situation has caused. I completely understand how disruptive reinstalling the system image can be, especially when you rely on your device for productivity. Our goal is to resolve this as efficiently as possible with minimal disruption to your workflow.

To address the fingerprint scanner issue, let’s explore a few targeted troubleshooting steps first:

                Driver Check/Update:

Windows updates can sometimes conflict with existing drivers. Let’s verify if the fingerprint sensor driver is up-to-date or reinstall it manually.

                Windows Troubleshooter:

The built-in Windows Hardware Troubleshooter might help identify and resolve the issue automatically.

                Roll Back the Update (Temporarily):

If the problem started immediately after the update, we can temporarily uninstall the latest Windows update to test if this resolves the issue.

I understand your frustration. Reinstalling is intrusive. If you’d prefer, I can assist in searching for other ways to avoid doing that. Let me know!

The most recent driver update that was pulled in automatically seems to have resolved the issue …

Beejay Hi there, which driver did you install ?

                    support1
Egis Tec Touch Fingerprint Sensor v3.6.1.5. It announced itself as an update and I confirmed it being installed, et voila!

Interestingly, I got version v3.6.2.3 that popped up on mine via Windows Update.
