Help - Problem with MSI Ventus 5080 in EX dock - Won't even turn on

Hi everyone, I’m having some problems with the install of a new MSI Ventus 5080 in my EX dock. When turned on the graphics card does nothing. No fans, no heat. The dock turns on because I have an SSD inside it which connects.

Do these 3 PCIE cables into one of those 12VHPWR power sockets only run when all 3 are connected (as in, I just need to get a 2 into 1)? or something more fundamental? If it is something that can be configured in the bios, what settings do I need?

I’m not worried about getting ultimate power out of the card (It’s for calculating, not graphics). Is there any way I can see if the dock sees the PCIE card? Can’t see in Device Manager, and not seeing anything obvious in the bios.

Any / All help appreciated!

Geekdan Update - I think the reason this is not working is because only 2x of the 3 cables are plugged in. I read on a Reddit forum that these cables are designed to work with all the 8 pin connectors plugged in. I have ordered a 2× 8pin into 1x and will test this.

under no circumstances use 2 connectors instead of 3

under no circumstances use the gpu under high load (3A games at maximum and high settings)

otherwise it will lead to melting of the power connectors

The power supply in the exdock is only rated for 300 watts and it is of terrible quality

it is better to buy a docking station that allows you to use your own power supply, for example from Minisforum

For rtx50 nVidia recommend PSU ATX 3.1

Or Thunderbolt 5 (FIVE), but Oculink is now much more affordable

Jensen_H1 what do you want to connect via thunderbolt? ex docking station doesn’t have anything like that ,gti14 ultra have thunderbolt 4=pci express 3.0 ×4!!!. and even thunderbolt 5 doesn’t provide such transfer as pci express 5.0 ×8. what will cause fps drops

Ok update. The RTX5080 works: The solution was the 2x plugs into 1, but I had to drop the PCIe speed to 3x (I think I have the EX, not the EX Pro). In the Bios go into:

Advanced >> PCIe Configuration >> PCI Express Root Port PXPF Then select PCIe Speed from [Auto] to Gen3

@Jensen_H1 I appreciate the warning, but I’m not using this for gaming. Other users here have performed similar configurations for their 50xx cards and high-end AMDs.
