I got a Beelink ser8 8745 about a month ago and I’ve been experiencing issues with the power draw and high temperatures during idle. The mini PC would draw 12-15 watts while idling and the temps would be around 50 degrees. I don’t think this is normal at all. My previous Beelink was a SER7 and the idle power draw was 6-8 watts with temps around 40 degrees. I have also noticed that the CPU boost frequency is 5.1 GHz when this CPU is supposed to only go up to 4.9. This makes me think there’s something wrong with the BIOS and that perhaps Beelink is overvolting the 8745 and that’s causing some instability when the pc isn’t under load. Any thoughts? The PC has the latest BIOS.

Piwo Here are some potential solutions: ①Check the cooling system: Ensure that the fans inside the PC are functioning properly. Make sure they are spinning freely and not obstructed. If the fan is not spinning , it need to be replaced. ②Adjust power settings: Adjust the power settings on your PC to optimize performance and reduce heat generation. Lowering the maximum processor state or using power-saving modes can help.Go to control panel —power option—change to High performance— change plan setting—advanced setting —processor power management— change both 100% to 99% , click save.

support6 hi, the cooling is not the issue. The mini PC is new and I keep it in a very clean and well ventilated area. The issue is the CPU’s behaviour during idle periods. The voltage is kept around 1.4-1.5 volts and that’s why power draw and temperatures are high. I have disabled the turbo boost clocks in the BIOS and the issue is temporary resolved. Now my temps are 35-36 degrees and the power draw is 5 to 6W. The biggest issue I have with this workaround is that I completely loose the turbo boost clocks and the performance of the mini PC is affected, specially during games. I hope Beelink can provide a solution for this. There are multiple posts online of people with the same issues and it is not okay for a $800 CAD product.

support7 hi, see the post I created on Reddit below. The issue is related to the amdgpio2.sys driver and as soon as you disable it, the issue goes away and the ser8 8475 behaves as expected. I’ve had my SER8 8745 for a month now, and I’m experiencing some issues with it. The power consumption is very high—18W at idle—and the CPU boost clocks are also incorrect. The CPU regularly boosts up to 5.1 GHz, even though it’s supposed to max out at 4.9 GHz. Additionally, the idle temperatures are high, hovering around 50°C. After doing some research, I found that others are experiencing the same issue, and it appears to stem from the amdgpio2.sys driver. I replaced amdgpio2.sys with the amdgpio3.sys driver, and the problem went away. Idle power consumption dropped to 6W, temperatures decreased to 36°C, the boost clock stayed at 4.9 GHz, and Geekbench performance improved by 10%. It’s clear that there’s a problem with how amdgpio2.sys interacts with the system. Replacing it with amdgpio3.sys disables the power button, which suggests the issue may be related to how the driver manages that controller. I hope Beelink addresses this soon—it’s not acceptable to have to disable hardware components just to get the PC to function as expected.

See below example of the PC during idle. Temperature is 50 degrees. CPU usage is 10% and the CPU clock maxes out at 5.1 GHz, which is wrong for the SER 8 8745HS. When the GPIO is disabled, the power comsuption and cpu usage drops to the expected levels.

Beelink needs to update the BIOS to address the problems. It doesn’t make sense to have the same BIOS for the 8745 and 8845 SER8 models. In the screenshot that I shared you can clearly see that the cores will boost to 5.1 GHz which is the boost frequency for the 8845. The 8745 should top at 4.9 GHz and this is the case when the amdgpio controller gets disabled.

If possible, could you please share the amdgpio2.sys file? I’m considering buying the 8745HS, but I’ve been a bit skeptical due to its high power consumption. If this resolves the issue, I might go ahead with the purchase!🙏

Hopefully, Beelink addresses this properly and doesn’t just avoid the questions (since it is apparently fixable)🙏

Moses my honest recommendation is to avoid this model for now. The hardware feels and looks great and it has tons of potential. However, the software implementation is poor and Beelink isn’t of much help.

I’d either go for the 8845 or get a different brand such as Minisforum.
